It was touch and go as to whether the match would proceed in gusty conditions and under a leaden sky at Churt. However, playing conditions underfoot were safe and both teams were keen to play, especially bearing in mind the number of games lost to the elements last season.
Elstead won the toss and elected to bat first.Even though the boundaries were relatively short, runs proved hard to come by.Elstead held on to their wickets well and did not lose their first until the 14th over, with 56 runs on the scoreboard. The main highlight of the innings was a 20 run over, with Will R picking up 16 runs including two sixes.Elstead finished their 16 overs on 67 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets.
Churt Reds began their reply somewhat shakily, with wickets falling steadily, with both Will R and Mark starting their spells well and Archie capturing two wickets in two balls in his first over. Elstead fielded valiantly (especially Will B behind the stumps)despite the inclement conditions and numb fingers may explain the numbers of wides bowled which allowed Churt to stay in contention.Things looked under control for Elstead when the final over arrived with 14 runs still required. However,Churt's returning opener hit the first two balls for four to shake things up and when the final ball arrived, the home team only required four runs to win. However,Will R held his nerve to bowl a good ball for which the batsmen could only scramble a single, leaving Elstead victorious by two runs.
