Stevens Cup Winners 2009Elstead batted first scoring an impressive 175 for 6 from their 16 x 8 ball overs Dogmersfield 136 all out off 14.3 overs. Elstead won by 39 runs.
Elstead got off to a flyer, reaching 104 off 8 overs thanks to a rapid 55 by Mark Gibbons from just 34 deliveries, including 4 sixes. He was well supported by Chris Mude (34 off 36). With the loss off Mark Gibbons, the Elstead rate slowed, but Sam Barker (24 no off 18) added useful runs in the final overs. Elstead achieved a score of 175 off their 16 overs, an excellent effort in view of the long boundaries all round. Dogmersfield's ground fielding was superb and ensured that Elstead failed to achieve the score of 200 plus which seemed likely at the half way stage. N Mushtaq bowled well, taking 2 wickets for 26 in his 4 overs.Dogmersfield struggled to match the Elstead scoring rate against tight bowling particularly from Josh Berry, whose 4 overs cost only 23 runs. 3 wickets fell cheaply to Berry and Mark Wycherley, including that of the dangerous Ilyas, and Dogmersfield were in trouble at 27-3. But Mushtaq (24 off 18) and K Hussain (30 off 30) put Dogmersfield back in the match until both were bowled by Sewell. Tight spin bowling by the young Chris Terry (3-20 off 3 overs) ensured Dogmersfield remained behind the required run rate and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals thanks to some excellent Elstead catching, including a spectacular catch by Tye to remove Y Hussain. Tye finally removed the last Dogmersfield batsman in the 15th over with the batting side still 40 short of their demanding target.Congratulations to both teams for an entertaining high-scoring match played in an excellent spirit and to Grayshott for preparing a superb pitch and lightning outfield.Man of the match - Mark Gibbons (adjudicators David Havenhand and Simon Whitley).Trophy presented by Keith Mayson |
