A winning start to the season for the U11s

Half the Elstead team arrived just in the nick of time,as they came directly from a football tournament to start the first cricket match of 2013 with minutes to spare!
This hurried arrival did nothing to distract the opening pair of Sam and Archie,with the former cracking boundaries off each of the first three deliveries of the innings.There were creditable batting performances from a number of other batsmen including Will R, Jack, Ollie and James and Elstead did not lose their first wicket until 77 runs had been scored.Despite the fall of a flurry of wickets after this,Elstead did well to bat out their full 20 overs,amassing an impressive total of 118 for 5.
Grayswood responded positively and after 14 overs had reached 71 for 3,so were close to the required scoring rate with plenty of wickets in hand. A close finish looked on the cards. However, Will R took the match away from them in the 15th over,taking 4 wickets with 4 consecutive balls to leave the home side wobbling. Some enthusiastic fielding helped to keep the scoring down,but Grayswood kept fighting and at the beginning of the last over,they needed 15 runs with their final pair at the wicket. Elstead's captain Sam stepped up and bowled out the Grayswood number 5 with the first ball,leaving Elstead victorious by 15 runs.
