Last week saw the Elstead U13’s travel away to a new venue for us in Woodstreet. A beautiful Sunday morning a wonderful friendly oppo, sun cream all round and a Finnish Lapin Kulta sun shade.
Skipper Kalle lost the toss but still got what he had wanted and Elstead were put into Bat. A promising start by skip Kalle and Koby saw them striking the ball well and starting the run rate moving nicely. Koby fell first for 6 followed by Kalle caught for 15. It was Jack Soothill who showed a mature innings with 31 off 40 balls with 5 fours retiring. At one point one of the fours disappeared into the long brambles which looked for sure like a lost ball until up sprang springer spaniel Toby who dived into the undergrowth where everyone was lightly treading and emerged with the ball in his mouth producing the best fielding of the day. Elstead then proceeded to lose a lot of wickets quickly in the middle order.
A needed 7 at the end from Ollie Ryder pushed Elstead to 106 for 9 which was a good result considering the quick loss of wickets in the middle order. Leaving us a fair amount to do in an increasing scorching field.
Elstead’s opening bowlers Miles and Koby kept things tight with Miles only giving away 1 run with 1 maiden and Koby just 3 runs for 1 wicket.
This seemed to set the tone for the Elstead bowlers and one after one the team bowled superbly with Jack Soothill and Jake Chaplin taking the only other wickets but Elstead keeping the side to 58 for 3 which is testament to the amazing display of bowling by all the team and a great job behind the stumps by Neal.
A great day of cricket by both teams played in the spirit the game should by young enthusiastic cricketers. Thank you to Woodstreet for welcoming us.
