Hundred up Haslemere is too big an ask!

On a late sunny May evening Haslemere won the toss and elected to bat first.

They came out of the traps at a pace, taking the score to 30 from 2 overs when Max clean bowled Alex who was looking menacing on 12 runs. The next wicket was to elude Elstead, not falling until there were 82 runs on the board. By the 5th over Haslemere had galloped to 51, their opener Scott having retired on 29. This bought Kieran W and Tom together at the crease, who kept the innings ticking over. Lewis bowled tightly to slow things up somewhat, until in the 11th over Kieran’s wicket fell, clean bowled by Charlie O for 12 with the score on 82. Next followed a 2 wicket maiden over bowled by Harry. First Tom was out to a well taken catch off Harry’s bowling for 11 runs, followed by2 balls later newcomer Will being run out by Harry off his own bowling. Charlie O then backed this up with an over just donning 1 run to the total. The scoring then picked up, surging to 105 in the 16th over, when Matt came on for another spell to try and stem the flow, delivering a wicket maiden, clean bowling Ollie for 5 runs. Lewis then followed up with a wicket at just a cost of 1 run caught by Alfie for 4 runs the following over. A few wayward overs by Elstead saw the score climb to 127, and it was only in the final over with Charlie W bowling that Kieran S was run out by Max for 4. The remaining 2 batsmen, Harry and Will finished on 12 and 4 not out respectively. By the end of the 20th over the score had ticked along to a huge total of 135 for 7, the highest score being 41 wasteful extras gifted by Elstead’s bowling and fielding.

Elstead’s reply started off steadily enough, with Max and Lewis putting 53 runs on the board, however it took them 11 overs which was to not be speedy enough in the final count. Max was the first to fall, bowled for 17, during a three wicket over bowled by Kieran W at a cost of just 1 run. Lewis went 3 balls later for 19, again clean bowled, and the unfortunate Matt was bowled for a golden duck to a ball that kept low, the score now on 54 for 3 off 12 overs. The score bumped along with Harry and Sam in bat, reaching 89 by the 19th over, when in an effort to up the score, a flurry of wickets fell. First Harry was caught for 8 runs, having faced 25 balls, in the 19th over, which bought Charlie W to the crease. In the final over Sam was given lbw for 19. Charlie O came in and was clean bowled first ball, which left Alfie to face 2 balls, leaving Charlie W high and dry – not facing the strike during his over and a half at the crease.
Elstead ground to a chasing halt on 96 for 6 off 20 overs, having given a respectable performance. Haslemere bowled 35 extras, with Elstead scoring 61 runs off the bat.
