April round up for 1st and 2nd Team

A great start to the season for Elstead 1st XI with a win and a winning draw. The first match of the season saw us crush Badshot Lea - a fine fifty from PK (56) helped Elstead to a respectable total of 180. The opposition never got going and were skittled out for a mere 53 thanks to fine bowling from Lewis Sheppard and Mohsin who both took 4 wickets for a mere 12 runs.
Last Saturday's total of 218 was also too much for the Bourne 1st XI thanks in the main to a maiden ton from Sam Egan (102 n.o.). May it be the first of many! Despite Faisal Syed's left arm spin taking 6-19, the opposition just held out for a draw with 8 wickets down.

The second team played their 1st match at the weekend also against the Bourne (2XI). Our bowlers were battered for over 200 runs and Elstead were on the brink at 41/6. But a stand of nearly 80 between Rupert Keith (58 n.o.) and Pete Cheeseman (37) ensured we got a draw and some points on the board.
Looking at what happened to the 1st team one feels a touch of schadenfreude in response to the scenes of the Bourne fielders complaints about the cold and how they would rather be watching paint dry!
