The Sunday XI’s were relieved to get a game, given the weather. Starting in a shower, and shortened to a 20:20 due to heavy rain forecast later. Elstead bowled first and made a promising start with opening batsman Holmes run out for zero in the second over, off Charlie Bird’s bowling (?) with some sensational fielding by promising youngster Luke Stevenson. Luke again demonstrated his promise by bowling Elstead’s only other wicket – Gumpel - for zero. Other notable bowling performances included Sam Warren, Charlie Bird and Ollie Ryman. James Little took a few body punches for the team but the Mariners settled down and put on an impressive 153 runs.

Opener Paul Williams was caught for three runs and John Warren LBW for nine, including a boundary. Barry Young injected a flurry of activity with two fours until bowled for 15. Olli Ryman put on a stirling performance with four sixes, retiring on 55 runs; but after this Elstead didn’t have much left in the barrel. Little was out for a golden duck (strategic, he maintains, to get Ryman back in), followed by Steve Luke and Luke Stevenson, both not out when the overs were. Total 115 for 7. Next time Elstead XI’s!
