It was another hot one and for a change we were able to put the oppo in the field to sweat it out first. Lewis, Sam, Dan and Max built a solid start against some annoyingly accurate and slow bowling taking us to 20 overs with just the loss of 2 wickets. With the opening bowler gone and the arrival of the Petes at the crease Elstead put on a great push for runs. Pete Lincoln biffed his way to 52 with 10 fours and one 6 and Cheese seemed to do a lot of running for a sweet 42. Further contributions from Charlie and Nick kept up a good run rate that allowed me to call the boys in as we moved through 210 by the 40th over, leaving us 40 overs to bowl them out.
The new cherry went to Cheese and Lewis, with Lewis keen to try out his pace skills. Wood Street found the going tough and were just not able to get the ball away whilst losing a trickle of wickets. Charlie continued this form with Sam after the skipper had a go (dropping one off his own!). With 20 overs to go we still needed 6 wickets and it appeared that the oppo were shutting up shop to push for the draw. now was the time for experience and Pat was the man of the hour, varying pace and length that the batsmen played all around. The wickets fell, Sam taking another and Lewis peppering them, it was a great tactical battle to pick up the last few but Pat broke through the final barrier and we won with 5 overs to go by 111 runs.
Every player had played a part with great fighting spirit and camaraderie in the field, a great day all round.
