In a match thought to be a walk in the park the Two's were shown that even a blind pig can find an acorn. The weather also pointedly failed to come to our rescue as we failed to bat.
It started on a dry pitch with promise of heavy showers and heavier rain to follow so the skipper put them into bat first. Both of our opening bowlers managed a wicket apiece with Will being economical but Gareth, unusually, dropping a few too many short balls that were dispatched by the number one batsman. His first appearance this season for Chiddingfold helping to explain how they've not managed a point this season as he goes on to hit more than half their runs. Cheese and Ben then tried their luck but, with pace not seeming to do the trick, were unable to take a wicket. After a huge rain shower that led to an early tea ( top job the skippers wife, Gill ) and the loss of 20 overs, Pat and Sam did the trick and with 5 wickets between them took Chid to their declaration having got 137 for 8 off 38 overs.
This left us 32 overs to beat that total or 117 for a winning draw. It did not go to plan!
We really failed to turn up at the crease and upon which a veil shall be drawn. Suffice to say that the highest total was 16 from a valiant rearguard action by Shep. We were all out for 58.
Having said that it was still fun with the game played in great spirit by both sides and we look forward to getting even in the return match.
Another plea; FILL IN YOUR BLOODY AVAILABILITY IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY DONE SO!!
