U17s secure very narrow victory...

Paul Soothill13 May - 07:46

new look team off to winning ways.

The newly formed U17s got off to a good start on friday night in their first match of the season, a friendly against Godalming at their place.

Having won the toss, skipper (Archie Bisley) elected to Bat and led the charge, alongside Joe Ryman - both retiring on 30 and 32 respectively. We decide to do a low retirement to make sure we gave as many people a go out as possible. A few shorter innings/collapses then saw the William boys put on a formidable partnership, Miles retiring on 30 and Morgan hitting 20 - unfortunately an off field incident (all ended well in the end) meant some of the scoring online went slight array for a period. A good little cameo from Sam Shaw-Allen in the end gave Elstead much needed additional runs, ending on 138 off our 20 overs.

Godalming made a fantastic go of it with two of their own batters retiring out. With a wide range of bowling options, almost everyone in the team got to turn over their arm. Some work needed in the field (always the case for game 1 of the season) but some smart keeping from Miles behind the stumps meant the game ran closer than we would have liked. In the end, we won by 5 runs and we will have a competitive game next time we face them in the league. For now, due to GCSE's, games will not start for the U17s until June - for all those taking exams - the very best of luck and lets hope the good weather lasts for when we start in the league!
