The season is underway with a bit of a chill in the air but, thankfully, no rain (on matchday). This year, I won’t be writing the usual detailed reports and I’ll keep things brief.
Starting the season with a Cup match is always a challenge but the boys won the toss, chose to bowl, and brought great energy along with some impressive bowling. They faced a strong Chiddingfold side, competing in Tier 1 this year. While Elstead U15s have a squad with more year 9s than year 10s, it's rare for a village team to take the field knowing that all 11 players can both bat and bowl with confidence.
Elstead managed to restrict Chiddingfold to 129 in this Hundred format but, unfortunately, couldn’t match that performance in their batting, falling short by 42 runs. Shoutouts go to Harry RS, Danny, and Jake for their wickets, while Rufus and Nathan led the scoring. And, finally, a special mention for the shot of the day—Freddie, in his very first cricket match, smashed a fantastic SIX!
A great effort from the whole team!
