The U15s kicked off their league season today with a match against Frensham. Elstead was sent in, to bat, and it quickly became clear why—the opposition’s opening bowlers maintained a tight grip on the game for the first seven overs. Jack and Nathan battled hard, making the most of any available runs, but the tide turned when Nathan fell at the start of the eighth over to a perfectly placed outswinger that found the edge. From there, wickets fell regularly until George and Rufus stabilised the innings. Rufus showcased some explosive batting, racing to 25 off 17 balls and lifting Elstead’s total to 96 by the end of 20 overs.
After the break, the U15s faced a formidable opening batter, initially contained by Rufus in the first over. However, he found his rhythm in the second, blasting his way to 50 off just 19 balls before retiring in the fifth over. With Frensham needing only 26 runs and plenty of overs to spare, the game seemed all but decided. Elstead fought back admirably, but Frensham secured victory on the final ball of the 12th over. Rufus and Nathan each claimed a wicket, but the standout performer was Danny, finishing with an impressive 3/3 in his four overs.
