Match Report by Guy Drayton

A familiar story once again for the 1st team recently; not enough runs on the board for the 3rd week running.
‘Surprisingly’ the toss was won the Frensham who had no hesitation in asking us to bat first. A tidy first 10 overs with fairly disciplined bowling and few bad balls, saw us get off to another slow start and the early loss of Tils & Max.
Scott and Guy were gradually building a partnership before Scotty was brilliantly caught off a ball that probably should have finished in somebody’s garden! It was the story of our innings; every time we began building a good partnership we then lost a wicket at a key time. At drinks we were 60 odd for 4 and conscious that, during the next 26 overs, we needed to produce runs in a really positive manner. Bruce and Chris set about doing this only for yet another wicket at a crucial time.
The introduction of Drew helped ignite our innings and finally put Frensham under some sort of pressure. His attacking innings, full of purpose and intent, helped push the scoreboard forward, only for him to fall as we got to the crucial period of the last 10 overs. In the end we got ourselves to a much below par 150 and failed to bat out 48 overs.

As has been the case in the last 3 matches our second half performance with the ball has been outstanding, shackled only by our lack of runs on the board.
When Kyo took a wicket with only the 3rd ball of the match we were off to the ideal start. Tils at the other end proved the ideal foil. However following this outstanding start, some undisciplined bowling then led to Frensham getting off to a flyer. After 10 overs they were on 50 before the introduction of Chris & Bruce pegged them back to 75 for 2 at the drinks break 22 overs in.
The pressure certainly told on Frensham as they fought hard to get across the line and it was to our credit that, not only did we take the game deep (41st over), but saw them lose 4 wickets for next to no runs! In the end 150 was not enough but what a fight we put up!

We are not far off achieving success but we need to be equally good in both halves of the game. Rest assured It’s just a matter of time before this happens !
