A Day for hot chocolate

Let’s start with the MVP of the day, Pikke who whipped off to Spar for hot chocolate and marshmallows to warm up the delightfully cold English morning.

The first game of the season may not have gone our way however, it was a great game of cricket. Blackheath won the toss and chose to bat, to the delight of Elstead. Despite the cold, the team fielded well and kept it really tight in the first 10 overs. A few lapses in the field late on allowed Blackheath to reach 134 for 5, with wickets coming from Alfred (2), Ben (1) and Caol (1) and superb catches from Henry, George, Jake and Alfred. After the hot chocolate and marshmallows, Jack and Nathan proceeded to set the base. Sensible batting followed from both players with Jack retiring at 50 (7 fours and 1 six) and Nathan running himself out on 41, while pushing for the two. Unfortunately, the quick running started an over too late leaving Elstead short by 19. After Jack’s retirement, Caol put on 18 and Rufus 3 off just 4.

All in all, a good match to watch and looking forward to warmer weather and some wins this season. Thank you to all those who helped during the match and clearing up, supported by a crippled Danny and cold players waiting to bat (pictured). A special thanks to Birdy for giving up his Sunday morning to umpire.
