Elstead Cricket Club
Elstead remains very much a village club, virtually all the
players have a connection with the village. Most live or have
lived in the village while the majority of the remainder visit to
worship locally. The club retains a strong youth section with
connections to local schools.

In 2005, Elstead opened its new pavilion. The new pavilion
is designed to meet the requirements of the 21st Century. It not
only caters for the needs of the cricket club, football club and the
Peter Pan Playschool but provides a meeting room and other facilities
for the village.
Elstead has two Saturday teams competing in the I' Anson League,
in addition they play in the mid-week knock out cup. Elstead run
a Sunday team playing various other local teams on a friendly
basis. There is a Women's team that also enjoys a friendly game
of cricket, and the juniors play in the Berkeley Sports Two Counties
Berkeley Youth League.
Regular training sessions are run for all players under the
guidance of ECB qualified coaches.

OLD HISTORY
The origins of the Elstead Cricket Club are uncertain, there is a
record of a cricket match being played at Elstead as long ago as
1786. The present club was believed to have been founded in the
1880s during the great expansion and interest in local cricket. Little
is known of these early years other than the fact that Elstead moved to
its current ground at Peat Common in the 1920s.
Shortly after the move to Peat Common the club built a 'pavilion' on
the Beacon View Road side of the common. The pavilion was replaced
in the 1960s and the old pavilion was dismantled an re-built as a garden
shed further down Beacon View Road

In 1962 a new pavilion was built in the corner by Beacon View Road
and Thursley Road, and this did sterling service for the next 40 years

It is a touch of irony that the 1960's pavilion was dismantled in
2005 just two weeks before the remains of the original pavilion were
also dismantled. Time for a change!
Elstead joined the I'Anson Competition in 1950. The 1st XI, remained in
the 1st Division until 1995 when they were relegated. They won promotion
in 1996, winning the Division II title by a large margin. A second
relegation occurred in 1997 and another promotion / relegation followed
in 2000 / 2001. It was not until the end of 2004 that Elstead won
promotion again.
